Who is R+D?

R+D (established 2017) is named after Rebekah and Doug (established 2006). R+D is currently owned and managed by Rebekah. R+D is a business centered around digital fabrication using sustainable resources. Learn more about us here.

Kitsch, Please is our first brand and is 3D printed jewelry. We stick to using a plant based material in our prints. In a commercial facility, it will take just 6 months for this material to be returned to soil. We keep a compost bin next to our printers to keep our process as sustainable as possible.

Hyggelig Ever After is our second brand of laser cut ornaments and wall hangings featuring local landmarks. They are all made from bamboo, a sustainable and fast growing grass. Painted or left plain, they will offer a cozy addition to any home and remind you of the places that have a hold on your heart.

Stay tuned for more info on our future brands!

What's going on with COVID-19?

There have been some shipping delays. We do our best to get your order in the hands of the USPS as soon as possible, by the next business day for in stock items.

For any in person events we are able to do, we take the community's safety very seriously: we have been vaccinated, continue to test, monitor well being, and following all protocols set by the venue and local governments. We ask you to also do everything you can to remain safe and protect those around you (with Covid and other transmittable diseases!).

We are so beyond grateful for your support during this time. To be fully transparent, 2020 was not an easy year. Within one day, we had events that would cover 1-2 months of revenue all cancel. Early on, I applied for a grant/loan and was rejected because on a minor discrepancy. I was denied unemployment benefits. I wasn't eligible for so many other programs simply because I was a sole proprietor. I also didn't want to take out a loan that would be detrimental in the long run. I was not sure how long we would survive. But y'all have made the difference. Our customers have continued to come through to support small businesses. You've bought our products, you've cheered us on, you've helped us to still be here. It can't be said enough--Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

How soon will my things ship?

Most orders ship the following business day.

We do our best to get your items to the Post Office quickly so it can begin it's journey to your doorstep. Once we've handed it off, we don't have much control over how fast it will arrive, but do provide tracking with every order.

Custom orders and orders that include metal as the material option will not ship the next business day. As expected, custom items are made on demand. We are able to offer metal as a material option on some designs by ordering through Shapeways. We do not typically keep back stock for these pieces. For these exceptions, it will be noted on the product page if there will be a delay in shipping.

Read our full shipping policy here.

How much is shipping?

Shipping rates may vary and are calculated at checkout. It is calculated using your cart information and current shipping carrier rates. We do this to pass on to our customers the exact cost of shipping an order. Typically shipping is $5.00 USD or less.

We do offer free shipping on orders over $35. It will automatically be an option at check out for qualifying orders.

Do you offer local pick up?

Yes! Choose a pick up appointment here and add it to your cart. Many times and locations are in Sunnyside, Queens, but as we add events more locations will be available.

Shopping online and choosing to pick up at an event is the best way to ensure that the products you are looking for will be available and waiting for you. We cannot bring our full catalog to in person events.

I have sensitive skin. Is Kitsch, Please Jewelry okay for me?

Yes! We use nickle-free hooks for our earrings, most are silver plated. For studs and chains, we use stainless steel.

How do I care for Kitsch, Please Jewelry?

We hope you'll love it and wear it often! The material we use is a bit flexible, so it should stand up over time, but note that especially with thin lines, if you force it, it will still break. Be careful to not put too much stress on any of the pieces, including the metal.

We print the rings a bit thicker so that they will stand up to being worn (and banged up).

Avoid putting any of these pieces in hot places (a car in the summer, a high heat dryer, etc...) as it could deform.

You can clean any pieces with soap and water or a bit of toothpaste to remove any tarnish from metal parts.

We also suggest that you take care to store your pieces as you might other jewelry: safely on a jewelry rack or in a box. Keep the backs to make sure they don't slip out of your ears unexpectedly.

If you decide you are done with a piece of Kitsch, Please jewelry, please remove metal pieces and compost it!

It's biodegradable. Will it degrade when I wear it?

No. It needs to be in the right conditions (bacterial activity, heat, and churning) to degrade. These are environments found in home compost piles and commercial composting facilities, but not your skin or where you would be wearing this jewelry.

Do you accept returns?

We don't currently accept returns. If there is an issue with your order, please be in touch immediately. We only replace items if they are defective or damaged in shipment. If this is the case and you need to exchange it for the same item, send us an email at hello@rplusddesigns.com with a photo of the damage and your order number. If an exchange is available, we'll send back information to complete it. Please note we do not send out a new item until the previous item is received. We also cannot exchange items where a repair has been attempted with glue.

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. You can always be in touch if you are in the NYC area about our upcoming events to be able to make an exchange at an event.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes! We've done everything from logos and promotional items for businesses and non-profits, to custom pieces from drawings or handwriting samples, right down to people who want a specific shape, animal or design. See more here and be in touch with us to get started

Also, watch our events page for times that we're doing custom pop-ups. We've brought our printer to do personalized bracelets and custom jewelry from kids drawings.

Is my payment information safe on your site?

Yes. No one likes the hassle of having to replace a card after it's been compromised or dealing with unexpected charges. We use Shopify, a PCI Complaint Hosting Provider. This means customer information is protected and that they comply with specific regulations. All of this is checked every year to make sure both R+D and every customer's info is secure. You can also see that R+D has proper security and encryption by clicking the lock in the URL/address bar. You can see more on our policies page.

Past this, we offer payment options other than using a credit card number like Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal (plus, these make it so much faster for you to checkout!).

I lost one earring. Can I purchase a single replacement earring?

Yes! We don't want that one earring to be without its mate! Here's how: order your earring and use the code SEEKINGPARTNER at checkout which give you a $5 discount and tell us to send just one. This part is important: if you are ordering more than one pair of earrings, you'll need to leave a note with your order telling us which one is meant to be a single earring. If you need multiple replacements, please contact us; we'll create the order and email an invoice.

I got an order confirmation, but haven't gotten shipping information. When will I get my order?

Most orders will ship on the next business day. If it's been longer, we most likely have tried to be in contact with you. If there was any issue with your order, it will not send until it is resolved. The most common issue is when local pick up is chosen without an appointment. Whatever the issue you'll receive an email from us, but those often get directed into spam folders. Check your spam folder for that email and if you need further help, email us at hello@rplusddesigns.com or reply to the order confirmation directly.
